Allow Us to Introduce Ourselves

Welcome to the new blog for the SVSU Writing Center!

There are a few reasons that we've created this blog, and one of them is to help you to get to know us better. We interact with students in the Writing Center every day, but sometimes we don't get to connect with them as much as we'd like. That's what we want to be able to do here. We want to show you our thoughts and ideas about college, and especially about writing.

We understand that not everyone who comes in to see us is a "writer" by traditional standards. We also understand that not everyone who comes in to see us even enjoys writing. What we hope you will understand after reading our entries is that our tutors have a lot more in common with other students than you might realize. Not all of us are English or writing majors; we have tutors here majoring in everything from nursing to education. We have plenty of people who write for fun on our staff, but we also have plenty of people who don't. We have people who write short stories, people who write essays, and people who only write for class. What we all want to do, though, is to help students write more comfortably and efficiently. If we're lucky, we might even show you that writing can be fun.

In this blog, our tutors will be introducing readers to all different types of writing: creative, academic, technical, and many others. We'll also be providing our own personal tips and tricks for writing, studying, and anything else we can think of to help you. All of us will include our names in the tags at the bottom of each post, so that if there's a particular tutor you want to follow, you can easily find all of their posts. We hope you comment, ask questions, and offer your own ideas about what we have to say; after all, we're here to help you.

TL;DR: Welcome to the SVSU Writing Center blog. We hope we can teach you something.
